How to determine the degree of hollowing of tiles?

You can judge the degree of hollowing of the tiles by the following methods:
First, listen to the sound
With a small metal rod (such as a screwdriver handle) gently tap the surface of the tile, listen carefully to the sound.
If the sound is crisp, similar to the ‘dangdang’ sound, tiles and grass-roots combination is not close, there may be drumming.
If the sound is dull, similar to the ‘dong dong’ sound, indicating that the tile paving is relatively strong, there is generally no drumming problem.
Second, feel judgement
Touch the surface of the tiles, especially the four corners and edge parts of the tiles.
If you feel a slight loosening or undulation of the tiles, there may be hollow drums. Generally speaking, a slight hollow drum may be manifested as a very small gap between the tiles and the grassroots, and a slight unevenness can be felt when touched by hand.
If the tile surface is very solid, there is no feeling of looseness, indicating that the paving quality is good, there is basically no drumming problem.
Third, professional tools detection
The use of hollow drum detector. This is a special tool for detecting drumming tiles, it sends out a specific frequency of sound waves, and then receive the signal reflected back to determine whether the tiles are drumming and the degree of drumming.
Place the probe of the drum tester on the surface of the tiles and test them piece by piece. The instrument will display information such as the area and degree of hollowing.
Generally speaking, the tester will classify the degree of hollowing into light, medium and heavy. Light drumming may be a small localised drum, medium drumming area is slightly larger, and heavy drumming may be a large area or even the entire tile is detached from the grassroots.
Through the above methods, you can more accurately determine the degree of hollowing of the tiles, so as to take timely and appropriate measures to deal with.
