If there is a height difference in tile laying, you can try the following methods to adjust:
First, slight height difference
Sanding: If the height difference is small, you can use sandpaper or sanding machine on the edge of the higher tiles for slight sanding, so that it is consistent with the height of the adjacent tiles. But pay attention to the sanding strength, to avoid excessive sanding damage to the surface of the tiles.
Caulking Adjustment: Use seamsticks or hooks to fill the gaps between the tiles, and make up for the slight height difference by adjusting the thickness of the caulk. When caulking, try to make the surface of the caulk flush with the surface of the tiles.
Second, larger height difference
Resurfacing: If the height difference is large, it may be necessary to pry up the problematic tiles and resurface them. Be careful when prying up the tiles to avoid damaging the surrounding tiles.
Clean up the base: Clean up the area where you pried up the tiles and make sure the base is level and free of debris. If the base is uneven, leveling is required.
Soak the tiles: Soak the new tiles in water for a period of time to make them fully absorb water and avoid the phenomenon of hollow drum after paving.
Adjust the thickness of cement mortar: according to the difference in height, adjust the thickness of cement mortar, so that the re-paved tiles are the same height as the surrounding tiles. When paving, pay attention to check the flatness of the tiles with a level and a ruler.
Compacting the tiles: gently tap the tiles with a rubber mallet to make them fit tightly with the base. At the same time, pay attention to check the level of the tiles and adjust them in time if there is any deviation.
Use tile leveler: If you don't want to resurface the tiles, you can use a tile leveler to adjust the height difference. Tile leveler is a special tool for adjusting the flatness of tiles, which can be used during or after tiling process.
Install the leveler: Insert the base of the leveler into the gap between the tiles, then rotate the adjusting screw so that the upper part of the leveler is in contact with the higher tiles, and adjust the flatness of the tiles by adjusting the height of the screw.
Removing the leveler: Remove the leveler after the tiles are completely dry. Handle carefully when removing to avoid damaging the tiles.
When adjusting the height difference of tiles, choose the appropriate method according to the actual situation and pay attention to the construction safety and quality. If you can't solve the problem by yourself, you can ask a professional tiler to handle it.
